Job Description

Job Duties:  (Essential function and responsibilities of job)

  • Under general supervision, the individual competently performs all aspects of developing a preliminary or definitive estimate for a major project or for a specific construction specialty.
  • Revises estimates when scope of project changes or other new information becomes available. 
  • At this level the individual may provide some technical guidance, but not administrative supervision over less experienced personnel

Additional Responsibilities

  • 7+ Years of Experience in the Petrochemical field.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong background/knowledge of Petrochemical facility piping and process equipment.
  • Strong interpretational knowledge of the Page/Nation Estimating Book.
  • 3+ years experience in estimating piping and process equipment labor take-offs.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Understands estimate types (Lump Sum, T&M, Fixed Fee, Budgetary).
  • Ability to interact with customers, vendors and inter-company personnel on a professional level.
  • Understands basic contractual language.
  • Ability to work in a group environment and willingness to share knowledge and learn from others.
  • Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel. 
  • Ability to compile material takeoffs and solicit pricing/delivery from vendors and suppliers.
  • Ability to interpret a request for bid and work the bid from start to finish/submittal.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • The ability and willingness to work under tight time restraints.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • Strong work ethic - Willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team. 
  • The ability to travel for bid meetings and site visits (normally 1 to 2 days).
  • Physical ability to perform bid informational job/site walks along with ability to climb ladders and stairs when required inside of industrial Oil/Chemical facilities.
  • Willing to work in an office environment on 40-hour per week work schedule.

Education, Credentials, and Experience:  (Job requirements are normally attained by)

  • High School or equivalent
  • Minimum of 7+ Years of Experience in the Petrochemical field. 3+ years’ experience in estimating piping and process equipment labor take-offs.
  • Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Under broad direction: supervision received is usually centered around job results or methodologies used such as problem solving approaches, establishing broad parameters for projects, work organization, progress reports, etc.  There may be occasional “General” or even “Direct” supervision, but the employee has some control over work methods.
  • Performs own work and provides assistance to others as directed
  • Working conditions infrequently involve some physical exertion, exposure to the elements or hazards inherent in the job which may include routine travel.
  • Work is primarily sedentary; exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Additionally, may be asked to meet following physical demands standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and/or reaching.
